Lace up your sneakers, loosen your arm and get ready to get loud. DSL Dodgeball Season II starts tonight!

It’s the dawn of another great season with the Sofa Kings, regardless of the win/loss record. We’re here to have a good time, make some new friends and throw some balls.

It doesn’t get any better than that. I’m surrounded by the best friends I could ever imagine with the added bonus of playing dodgeball with them. Hopefully this year we’ll get further in the playoffs like we did in the 2nd season last year!

Nonetheless, here’s to the start of another great season to come!

Lofty unlikely personal Goals for 2010

It’s a new year, new resolutions and attempts at growing into this more incredible person that I should be. This year’s list differs from last years and the previous because it’s based more on what my focus is on now, not what I hoped I would focus on. I can see myself transforming from a young lad into a man and with that my desires have changed slightly. I’m maturing (you’re welcome Mom), still possessing the curious spark of a child but with the perception and wisdom of an adult. Let’s face it, I turn a quarter of a century and while that isn’t old…I expect to be places by the end of this year.

Here’s to hoping for the best and asking God for the patience to deal with the rest. With that, here are 2k10′s New Year’s Resolutions…

Own less (I admit, I’ve fallen into the cycle of consumerism…well this year I want to be more about minimalism)
Read 3 books (I don’t read so while this may seem like a basic goal its actually fairly challenging)
Drop the weight to 220ish (part of being a healthier me, I’m a fan of this)
Go on 5 photo expeditions (Previous expeditions can be seen here)
Visit the new Yankee Stadium
Take more action (over just waiting for things to happen)
Doing more DIY projects…like making homemade Bailey’s Irish Cream (as of 1/4 I just found the recipe…so we’ll see how it works).
Love wastefully
Run a 7 minute mile
Homebrew a killer beer all of my friends will love.
Surprise someone with a ridiculous amount of love, care and compassion in one event
Build a stronger walk
Learn how to throw cards
Learn 5-10 common phrases in another language…if that works, we’ll expand to 20-30.
Learn how to juggle…(again, I didn’t really push myself too hard last time)
Build a lamp
Buy a house, or move entirely (Newark’s fine but I spend all of my time in Wilmington…I need to either buy a house or relocate)
Give
Run 5 miles (straight)
Run 10 miles (straight, let’s see if the 1st goal works before we get all crazy)
Take my kayak out at least 5 times
Expand the Sofa Kings community efforts

Roxie Division Champions!

Tonight start’s Season 1 of the 2009 DSL Dodegball season.

While this team is different from last year’s Roxie Division champs…I’ve seen a great year with our guys full of events, occasions, birthdays and more. We’ve all gotten closer to turning this team into more of a family and the best group of friends I’ve ever had.

But enough of the tears, its time to throw some balls and get some….tonight, 6:45 at Highlands.

Sofa Kings 10vs. Super Heroes In Training 7
Sofa Kings were slightly short handed on the men’s side as Brooks Hall decided that education was way more important than his kickball teammates, Eric Bland was trying out for pep squad and Bill Czachorowski was stumbling up and down Route 1 somewhere between Jimmy’s and Hammerheads. Have no fear Sofa King fans, Bob Spring and ‘A-Rod’ Adam Hardt really stepped up their games in their absence. Adam did it offensively with a two run homerun while Bob covered the ENTIRE outfield. Heck, on some plays, he even covered the infield. I think it’s the red cleats. On the ladies side, Jessica K-a lot of letters-ski displayed her matrix-like moves as she dodged a bullet up the middle while she was on the mound and Nicole Burris did all kinds of scoring. For Super Heroes In Training, they are officially changing their name to Team Wendell. In his first at bat, he collected 2 RBI’s as he drilled a long shot to the wind tunnel in right field. In the next inning, Mike Clendaniel added a two run shot of his own. Carmen Eoppolo deserves some props for his running shoe string catch on a dying quail down the left field line. In a supporting role, Replacement Steve had a good night too

Sofa Kings 9 vs. Where My Pitches At? 6
Yet another Sofa King match-up with some pre-game trash talk. Bob Spring with his near broken but still working wrist belted a loooooong 2 run homerun to put the Sofa Kings up.
Jayme Fields would have added to the lead if Marshall wasn’t 10 feet tall. Pitches mounted a comeback to tie the game using small ball. Staples got things started with what quite possibly may have been the worst kick in all of kickball not just DSL history.
Consecutive singles by Jim Marshall, Bridget Garvin and Carrie Wolf continued the rally. In their next at bat, Sofa Kings went up for good on a perfectly place ball down the third base line off the foot of Erin Ott. JC Hughes added to the lead with a triple. But his shout out doesn’t stop there.
He didn’t screw up in left field and made a phenomenal catch to end the end an inning and save at least one run. Debbi had a horrendous night offensively including a foul out but she made up for her lackluster batting performance with a STELLAR night defensively at first base! Sofa Kings would like to thank The Hershey Company and the distributers of Twizzlers as the two pre-game bags appeared to have stepped their game to the next level.

Me and Mr. Smith after the loss to Kickballs in the Mouth

A game against Swift Kick in the Grass in a rematch of last season’s playoff game.
We won 7-6, off of my game-winning single in the bottom of the 7th. These guys were good and we’ll remember not to take them lightly like last time.

Should be a grand time, Sofa Kings record: 0-1 (1-1 with the scrimmage).

Sofa Kings 17 vs. 16 Ton Gunz 11

After a two week hiatus, Sofa Kings were ready for some kickball. They had the cutest cheering section as Debbi’s nephews Benjamin and Gannon came to root on their favorite aunt. Fresh of ankle surgery, Beth Hayes hobbled to the Riverfront to manage the rowdy squad. Captain Chris Connelly, Bob Spring and Jessica Kraszewski didn’t disappoint as they each connected for homeruns. Bob’s first shot almost landed on MLK Blvd. He was pretty impressive defensively as well. He displayed a move where he just about impregnated Kelly Toton at second base. Then there was Pat Burris who made an amazing attempt to haul in a shot at short stop. He jumped an astounding 2 inches off the ground.

Down big early, 16 Ton Gunz mounted a late game come back. They were led by Ryan Troutman who is picking up the reigns from former captain Gary Castelow. Troy Thomas proved his kicking leg is just as strong as his dodgeball arm. Man can that kid fly around the bases too! Tim Frick looked like Chris Brown with a nice slide into second base. Michelle ‘The Future Mrs. Captain’ Peto was stellar defensively but their come back came up just short.

Sofa King Bar Crawl

Tonight the Sofa Kings play at 6pm, at the Riverfront in the DSL Kickball Season 2 opener against 16 Ton Gunz. After a 5-1 and 1 season that took us to the Elite 8 in the playoffs we start fresh again tonight.

I’m really looking forward to seeing these guys, playing some kickball and having some fun.

Like any other season our family has changed, loosing a few and gaining a few, but all in all we’re going to be a tight group. We’re a family in kickball and in life and I utterly love these guys!
