With just under 2 hours until tonight’s Dodgeball Playoff matchup, I’m stoked.
7pm, Highlands Elementary Hot Dogs & Doughnuts face Slingin Smack Rocks.
If we win the first game, we play for the championship against the winner of Logan House and Team Powerhouse.
I’m pumped and ready for the night…win or loose, its been a great season with these guys.

Hot Dogs & Doughnuts 7 vs. Team Awesome 6
Team Awesome showed up ready to play and took early control of the match. The powerful duo of Michelle and Megan got the Awesome ladies on the scoreboard first. Captain Kalai, Mike and Rich followed their lead and mowed down the HD&D men to keep the shut out intact. It continued that way for the next two games and the hopes for a play-off victory for HD&D were looking bleak as they were down 4-0. The ladies of HD&D earned the first W of the night for their squad in game 5. With our backs to the wall, we never gave up hope. Being down 6-2 and with every game being do or die, HD&D arose to the challenge. In what might be toted as the best comeback in DSL dodgeball history, HD&D came all the way back to tie it up 6-6. ‘Hambone’ Bill fired several shots that left some Awesome men requiring appointments with a fertility specialist and ‘Flamethrower’ Jess hurled the balls so hard that the gym walls were shaking. Then there was our MVP of the night, Janelle Biller. In game 13, she created her own luck with an amazing game winning catch between her knees. Sure, luck means a lot in dodgeball. Not having a good captain is bad luck. Good thing HD&D has Chris. Here’s to HD&D surviving to play another night of dodgeball under the excellent leadership skills of their fine captain, Chris Connelly. Most importantly, to Kalai and the rest of Team Awesome, you truly lived up to your team name in every sense. You proved that sports do not build character; rather, they reveal it. Thanks for a fun and spirited game.

Since we have a bye this week (Top seed in the Roxie bracket) for dodgeball…we’re going out to celebrate our season…at Hibachi Steak House. That’s right, a team of beer drinking, bar hopping, semi-crude and gallivanting hooligans is going to a fine steak house…this could get interesting.

In other awesome team news, the Connelly Team Mgt Board (6 members strong) has decided to permanently change our team name to the Sofa Kings. Much to the delight of people…who hate sexual innuendos in team names. Sexual Innuendo free, Mom friendly name…unless you say it s lo w l y.

In any event, I’m exicted.

Aside from that, tonight I’m free after work with no game or plans. So here’s what I am doing tonight:

Working on the website…seriously, my portfolio site needs a facelift.
Maybe buying a lamp kit ($6)…I’ve always wanted to build a lamp…its been one of the many personal projects….along with painting pictures, creating some type of wax art and 3d framing…
Quiet time
Going through old Whetstone photos to see if there’s are any flickr-worthy stuff

This week, we’re going to here for the weekend after work…lots to look forward to!

Hot Dogs & Doughnuts 7 vs. Ballz Across the Nose 7
Happy 25th Birthday Amanda Lovejoy!!!!
Each of these teams fought hard for their seven wins. Ballz Across the Nose captain Jesse Cyr perfected mediocrity, while teammates James and Nick picked up his slack as each of them battled back from being down to come back and earn wins for the Ballers.

Laura harnessed the power of her new brown hair as she had a great all around game.

HD&D were led by their captain Chris Connelly. In one game, he mowed down four ballers in rapid succession with a wicked side arm approach (which was AWESOME!).

It was war out there from Krumm but have no fear, he showed up for battle in his gold Nikes. On the court by herself, Gabbie West didn’t let the pressure get to her as she made two outstanding catches.

Typically, I don’t like to give myself a shout out, but I did have a pretty good game. Except for in the heat of the moment, I argued the umps call.

I’m looking forward to another incredible night of dodgeball and fun with my guys. Thankfully this one is an early game (5:50) so I shouldn’t be out too late.
I really love this season, this crew, the fun, everything. We’ve been building this family for the past year and I couldn’t be more grateful for my guys, the friendships and bonds we’re building.
For the first time…ever, in my life, I’m really a part of something close. We mesh, playing together, drinking together, hanging out on non-dball nights. I really can’t trade these guys for anything in the world.
The family’s building, some coming in, likely some leaving…but the core stays and I love it.

First Week’s Warm Up game…showing promise

Hot Dogs & Doughnuts vs. Hooligan’s
This was a re-match of Season 1’s Roxie Division semi-final game. Hooligan’s was joined by Scott Mance, who is officially off the DL. Not only did he play well, he managed to avoid those walls which jump out in front of you and cause foot injuries during dodgeball games. Scott wasn’t the only Mance who had a good start to the second season. Jamie looked like Peter Le Fleur out there on the court. For Hot Dogs & Doughnuts, Krumm sported his Eagles green from head to toe. I think it brought him luck, as he dodged 5 straight balls from a crawl position. A shout out also needs to go to rookie Salmon for his dodging ability and overall court presence. For the Ladies, Lovejoy had an MVP performance. I guess dodging all those balls from Bob ‘The Total Package’ Spring during warm-ups helped to improve her game.

I like our team; I like our new guys. The new additions already mesh well with who we have and I really look forward to seeing us grow together as a team.
