Another blog post I found from years ago..previously written 1/25/07

Ok, so…i was reading a friend’s blog today…shes an incredible writer, (I’ve probably told her that once or twice) and its not so much what she writes, but the way and how she writes it. Its the rhythm, the structure and the melodic details falling where they may. Whatever it is, its not what is said, but the way its said.

Out of all the things I claim to be, a writer isn’t one of them. But when I find myself writing I want to do it well. Its this humanistic, selfish desire to be very good at something, even when if its not something you do often, much less spend very much time on. I wish I could write in such a way that it inspires people…and urges them to better themselves, perhaps even to greatness. Artistically, designing I live in those same goals…to inspire. When I do write, though sparingly…I want it to mean something…something beyond the reckless bablings of a 21-year old college senior. I’m far more than that; I want my writing to reflect as much.

Writings, words, and the way they are all said have always meant something to me. If I can write produce a writing to go along with a piece of art I’ve done, my satisfaction is two-fold. The piece means significantly more because I can express verbally in the same way I have visually.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…I truly admire writers because if their ability to paint pictures, create visualizations and craft dreams.

So again, here’s to the people that inspire me to be more, even if its in the lesser concentrations of my life….

Previously written 1/24/06…but in going through an old blog I found it still applies…

There is a reason why first impressions, good or bad, last a lifetime…regardless of what was said, how or who said it…it in its essence is perfect. You can’t redo a first impression. You can’t call a mulligan or try it over again. Its in stone, frozen frame in time.

First impressions are unique in that the feelings you experience during the first impression are completely genuine unhindered by previous knowledge or pre-conceptions. You didnt know you should feel any different.

Your reactions to what is said, how it is said and the gestures that follow are completely and utterly true. There is no time to hide them; no time to put on a mask. You have no idea how the other person will react to what you say or do…so why be anything but you? Come original, come real…you should have nothing to hide. Regardless of what is said, it is perfect…and will last a lifetime. Acting any different in the future won’t matter, they’ll always go back to how they first knew you…

So congrats, cheers…you left your mask at home…

So, this is going to sound weird but…I hope some day I am truly inconvenience.
Someday in the future, I want a friend, loved one, even mere acquaintance to call me and need me…in the absolute worst convenient time for myself. Whether its on the way to an event or in the middle of a project, what have you, I want the opportunity to serve someone in way that truly self-sacrificing to myself.

I’ve helped people before; there’s never a convenient time to give someone a hand, but I’ve never done it when it truly is the “worst” time for myself. Usually I help others on my time or in place of something else…but I can never think of an occasion where I did an act of service over something important to me.

Why do I care? Why is this even on my mind? Because I want the mentality of a servant, a helper, someone who sincerely cares for others and their well being. It’s what I strive to be but fall short on so often. I’m always full of myself and my own personal needs that I hardly look to help anyone else out. Its in my nature to be selfish and introverted. That needs to change; I want it to change…it starts with putting others above yourself. Loving your neighbor without reward, incentive or even gratitude. It’s about being more than what we currently are, expanding ourselves in personal growth by deepening our character and love for our fellow man. It starts with putting people and their needs above our own…

I want to serve you my friend and if you ever need me I want to be there.
You’re important to me, especially if you don’t know it and I hope I can be there for you if you ever need me…especially if it interferes with my life.

You pull different things from different people in admirable traits, characteristics, abilities, likes and dislikes.

You’re constantly influenced or open to influence from the various people you meet. In living life you try to pull the best of each and use them to help shape a better you.

For us, the people that want positive change, good people around us make want to be better, stronger people around us make us want to be stronger, hardworking people around us force us to examine our own work ethics and rise to their level.

We’re in a constant state of change, evolving from who we are to who we aim to become. Its in this natural evolution that we build our identity, pulling from a beautiful influences.

The cognitive mind, especially my own, fascinates me.
But, the best advice…I’ve ever receive was in the simple principle of reactions.

The only thing you can control in a situation, conversation, event or occurrence…is your own reaction.

That’s it, just your single reaction to something. Your reaction, in turn, influences their reaction thereafter. React in a certain way and the opposite will react off of that.

Its so simple its almost obvious, while at the same time can change things in a dramatic way.
